Homebuyer Counseling
Muskegon Oceana Affordable Housing Initiatives (MOAHI) provides homebuyer education, financial literacy, and individual credit counseling. Homebuyer education is a two part class that focuses on helping become knowledgeable homebuyers. Learn how: to determine if you are ready to be a homeowner; to determine how much house you can afford; to select the house that is right for you; how to choose a real estate agent and lender; to be prepared for your closing; to maintain your home. Financial Literacy focuses on: Mastering Money Management Skills, Developing a Spending Plan, Credit, Debt Reduction and Saving, Banking Basics, Consumer Protection, Insurance and Long Term Planning, Living in a Happy Healthy Home.
Individual Credit Counseling focuses on learning how to read your credit report, remove items that don't belong to you, negotiate and make payment arrangements with your creditors, and living with a budget you can afford.
There are not any requirements for taking the homebuyer class. In order to take financial literacy and/or receive individual credit counseling, you must first take the two part homebuyer education class.
